Dance - 30th May 2007

Hey guys, just an update from my end.

So as they say, life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get??
Well, I feel like I'm on a non-stop rollercoaster ride at the moment. No, rest for the wicked as they say.
It’s great to be in the fast lane.... but I guess sometimes we all need to pitch it down and cruise back into the first lane. (Although us BMW drivers have a reputation for hogging the 3rd lane - but its quite funny how other car drivers don't argue with a Beemer!!).

Anyways, my recent car journeys have involved me dancing away to 'Ruk ja Oh Dil Deewane'. I'm sure the other drivers think I'm mad, but hey who cares. So, buzzing with songs and dialogues from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge …. I’m enjoying my journey to my debut in Theatre.

Well, as you know I've been extremely tied up with rehearsals for the play - Bollywood Jane. It’s been hard work, but great fun. We are now in technical rehearsal week, so we are out of the studios and actually working on the sets on stage. Entries & exits throughout the play have to be tight and spot on ... so I'm now also trying to ensure that the script is embedded in my brain. Tech rehearsals are 10 hours every day, we start at 1pm and work till 10pm. Obviously, I still have my full-time job, so I'm also working.
The journey has been fun. Its great to see people of all walks of life come together. The actors have also been great, very encouraging. The end result is spectacular and the feeling of achievement is priceless.Well, rehearsals have been interesting, going from full on dancing to tracks from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge to our street scenes.
The director is using the dancers as extras in the play, to create the community atmosphere. But, lots of waiting around ... this industry aint as glam as it looks.Well, must say it’s full of drama. So, we go from the grim streets, to snowy mountains, and 20 dancers rush on to stage to spark up the whole scene. Very Filmy!!! ha ha Plus, it seems that everyone is kissing everyone in the play .... so that part is not quite bollywood. ha ha

Well, the most interesting aspects that have come out of all this production have been the media attention. It’s been quite an experience. I was involved in a photo shoot earlier in the year during the auditions, and the photos were used for publicity everywhere. From, newspapers, to leaflets, to websites. I managed to feature in the papers and also had a few TV appearances (ha ha - not quite famous though - damn!!!) - but that was great fun.And recently, I've been involved in filming for a short programme with the BBC. They are airing it on national TV in June.
Not, used to so many cameras in my face, but its good fun, and I was dancing with girls from so many different backgrounds, we have, a german girl, a scotish girl, an irish girl, a polish girl, an indian girl, a sri lankan girl, and of course english, and british asian. Its nice that people can just come together and have fun!!!
I did a photo shoot for the newspapers for their fashion and style section, which will be published on the press nite for Bollywood Jane, and will also coincide with the IIFA arrivals here in Yorkshire. That was great – I loved it. Get dressed up, look glamorous, smile for the 50 million camera shots, and then repeat it all again. The location was Grande.. I just needed to pull up in a limo; unfortunately it was just a taxi. Ha. The shoot was outdoor, and I was struggling to keep my eyes wide open in the bright sun.

I performed at the Leeds Media Event a couple of weeks back. It’s such an adrenalin rush on stage. I remember walking in with the dancers, and so many cameras were flashing, and filming.

Anyways, wish me luck. Its press nite on 6th June, and I’m also performing on my birthday night – 7th June. Will keep you posted.
Keep it kool.
Chat soon.
Bindixxxxx
